We're counting down to our first event taking place at the end of September!
We'd love to share some important information with our volunteers to help them prepare for the planting. If you haven't registered yet, sign-up here: https://www.tdtreedays.com/events/date
Getting ready for your Tree Days event:
Our events take place rain or shine, so we recommend volunteers to dress for the weather and wear closed toed sturdy footwear (no flip flops or sandals). You can dress in layers with a windbreaker and bring rain gear in case of rainy conditions.
Other recommended items are reusable water bottles, hat, sunglasses, insect repellant (with deet) and sunscreen. High School Students looking for volunteer hours are required to bring their official volunteer form for our Site Leader to complete and sign.
Check your event page on the morning of your planting for any important updates. This is where you will find parking and directions. Clicking on the map on the event page will prompt google maps to open up to make it easier for you to navigate to the meeting location.
It's always recommended that you arrive fifteen minutes earlier than the start time to check in with your site leader and receive your TD Tree Days T-shirt. Though garden gloves will be provided, please feel free to bring your own if you prefer.
There will be a brief welcome huddle where important information will be shared followed by instructions on how to properly plant the trees/shrubs.
'Tis the season of wasps:
Please remember that we're planting in natural areas where wasps, ticks and/or insects may be present.
It's easy to confuse bees with yellow jacket wasps. Yellow jacket wasps have shiny bodies and can sting several times whereas bees are fuzzy, only feed on flower nectar and sting only once. For information on how to avoid getting stung click here.
Light-colored clothing makes ticks easier to spot and insect repellent with deet helps. This 3-minute video is also a good intro on ticks as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sU8wLgXZ92M
We look forward to meeting you at the event!
